| Cyrano de Bergerac August 31st - September 4th September 6th - 11th September 13 - 17th by Edmond Rostand adapted and directed by Richard Mazda Cyrano de Bergerac is a tale of a man whose physical deformity belies his skills as an incredible wit, poetic soul and a dashing virtuoso of the sword. When Cyrano falls in love with Roxanne he is faced with a peculiar dilemma. Roxanne enlists his help to win the favour of the handsome yet tongue tied Christian de Neuvillette. The lovelorn Cyrano out of love for Roxanne agrees to help his love rival. At the end of the play as the hero faces his death he finally confesses to Roxanne that the love letters and poetic words she believed to be Christian's are in fact his. This classic French play is a exciting new version which fuses old and new. The language is a faithful English language translation which is complemented by costumes which are an imaginative combination of modern dress and period details. |
